Circle of Champions 2012

Robin Vincent receives The Fragrance Foundation UK Circle of Champions Award 2012 presented by Kenneth Green

In 1959 Robin joined Yardley as a salesman and discovered a real passion for the industry.  With an eye to the future, he studied for his marketing qualifications at night school before being appointed Sales & Marketing Director and eventually Deputy Managing Director of Yardley UK in 1975.

In 1978 he moved to Max Factor as UK Managing Director and in 1983 set up the Clarins UK company which in his own words was  “The start of the best 29 years of my commercial life – so far!”.  His work both with the brand and the linked programmes has meant the brand has successfully held the No 1 skin care spot in the UK for 24 uninterrupted years.  It has also enjoyed considerable success with its colour business launched in 1991 and from 1992, the Thierry Mugler fragrances Angel and Alien.

Robin's love for the industry is legendary, and in his own words ‘I have had the enormous privilege of working for a Company that has given me the licence to innovate and develop new programmes and approaches”.  While all around were cashing and wrapping, he was the first UK MD to offer customers mini-facials in the aisles adjacent to the store counter and followed this with the remarkable Clarins Spas that became part of the Clarins famous in store service programme. He has been on a one man mission to bring the professionalism of the beauty salon to beauty retail.  Today there is a 65 strong in-store Clarins Spa business, a multi million pound offering in its own right.

He has seen major changes in the industry, lived through at least two major recessions, and remains an optimist for both the economy and the industry.  But as he says – for the moment I’m a long term optimist!
